Fear: The Biggest Enemy of Motivation

January 18, 2010 No Comments

When you think really hard about why you sometimes lack motivation, what’s the main reason? For most of us, it’s fear. It could be…

  • Fear of failure.
  • Fear of the unknown.
  • Fear of not being accepted.
  • Fear of change.

So many of us end up ignoring our dreams because we’re afraid.

The good thing about this is that most of these fears are unfounded, unrealistic and ridiculous.

For example, if you want to be a novelist, you may not have found the motivation to achieve this goal because you’re afraid you’re going to fail at it. While failure may mean that you aren’t cut out for this career path, you can’t be sure that you will fail.

Every time you think of your goals and feel a demotivational fear, consider the consequences of not even trying.

If you don’t try to lose weight, you could have a shortened life.

If you don’t start your own company, you’ll be stuck in a dead-end job that you hate for the rest of your life.

The very small chance that your fears will come true isn’t worth turning your back on your dreams. After all, things may turn out better than you ever expected.
