The more concrete your goals are, the easier they are to achieve.
For instance, if you want better fitness, you could have a goal of ‘lose weight.’ While that’s a fine goal in general, it’s not very descriptive or concrete. It doesn’t really say how you’re going to lose the weight.
Instead, you could say, “I would like to lose 40 pounds in 4 months through diet and exercise.” That’s much better because it gives you a concrete goal as well as a time frame in which to complete it.
Another way you can make your goals more concrete is to visualize them. When you add a visual aspect to your goal, it can help you achieve your dreams.
Ways to visualize your goals
- Dream of owning your own home? Clip out pictures of interiors and exteriors of homes in magazines to help inspire you. Frame it and put it on the wall as a daily reminder of where you’d like to end up.
- Want to fit into a size 10? Make a collage of all the great outfits you can wear in your future form with the help of Polyvore.
- Thinking of going back to school? Print out the difference between your current salary and the salary you could be making with a college education. Put it in your wallet and next to your computer.
Now it’s your turn
Have a list of goals? Make it your weekend project to visualize each one in a unique and uplifting way. Make sure to keep your collages and pictures where you’ll see them often.
