7 Things to Do Today to Reach Your Goal
April 7, 2009 2 CommentsSometimes it’s easier to think of the small steps, rather than the big picture. A large goal can seem daunting if you only think of the end result.
What can you do today? Even something small, yet related to your goal, can help you get ever closer to who you truly want to be.
7 things to do today to reach your goal
- Work on your visualization. Creating a collage? Clip out some pictures from a magazine or print them from the computer.
- Come up with a mantra. This should be one sentence that encapsulates the reason why you have this goal. Try something like, “I want to become healthy and fit so I can be here for my future grandchildren.” Print it off and put it someplace you can see it every day.
- Research your goal at the library. Knowing more about your goal will help you attain it in the future. Want to run a marathon? Pick up a fitness book about marathon training. Then, you’ll get to see what goes into the preparation.
- Share your goal with a friend. Telling someone you know about your goal will help keep you accountable. Ask them to keep tabs on you. You could even give them weekly updates of your progress. Just be sure to choose a very supportive friend or you may end up sabotaged.
- Think and reflect. Find a nice, relaxing, quiet place to sit and think. Don’t just think about how things will be better once you reach your goal. Think about the process leading up to the goal, and how much effort you’ll need to get there.
- Take on small step. Do just a little bit of your goal-reaching today. This could mean going for a walk for someone who wants to be healthier, or cutting your cigarettes by a third if you’re planning on quitting smoking. A little bit will go a long way.
- Look for a goal partner. Look for someone in real life or online that has the same or similar goal as you. Keep in contact with them throughout your goal-reaching. Having someone to achieve this with can add a lot of motivational fire to your spirit.
Choose 1, 2, or all of these things as a way to help you finally become the person you want to be.
Sure, it may not feel like much now, but each day will add up. One day, you’ll be so close to your goal you can taste it, and you’ll wonder how you got there.

One more thing, find and use a goal management software to keep track of your goals.
You may also check out http://www.GoalsOnTrack.com, a very nicely built web app designed for tracking goals and todo lists, and has time tracking. It’s clear, focused, easy to navigate, worth a try.
Harry’s response is just an ad to download & pay for a product. Blech!
By the way, I’m starting my list of 101 things in 1001 days – Wow. That’s a hard list to tackle! I’ve gotten only 20! I’m going to have to think simpiler or choose steps to some goals (like weight loss can be broken up into a few goals – walking and drinking water and such). Thanks for the info here! I found you on Twitter, btw.
